Anoppi roudasi minulle Australiasta olutta, James Squiren - hop thief ja tämän tarinahan on suorastaan jännittävä. Ulkonäkö & Tuoksu:
Oikein hedelmäinen ja raikas tuoksu. Vaahto on 2 sormea korkea ja nopea katoamaan. Olemukseltaan kirkas ja kuparisen värinen. Humalat tuoksuu vahvasti ja ovat olemukseltaan jotenkin raa'an humalan oloisia, johtuisiko kuivahumaloinnista. Oikein tuore humalan tuoksu siis joka on vieläpä aika sitruksinen, kukkainen ja hedelmäinen.

Maku:
Hiilihappoinen mutta silti aika pehmeä olut. Humalointi on ruohoinen sekä hiukan raa'an oloinenkin johtuen kuivahumaloinnista. Humalointi on yllättävän aggressiivinen mutta katkerot on kuitenkin hillityt. Humalat kuivattavat suuta todella ja oluen profiili on sitä myöten todella kuiva. Tasapainoinen mausteisuus höllättynä kukkaisuudella. Greippi ja trooppiset hedelmät etsivät tovin paikkaansa mutta sitovat maut kuitenkin hyvin yhteen. Jälkimaun kitalaki tuntuma on hiukan tympeä ajan saatossa.

My mother in law brought me some Australian beer named James Squire - Hop Thief, and this beers' story is actually quite exciting. James Squire was born in 1754 in London and had been on the criminal path since his youth. In 1787 the youngster had ended up in Australia, where he stole "medical supplies" from the hospital warehouse where he worked. The items that he stole was pepper and horehound, a herb that mimics the taste of hops. Initially he claimed that he stole stuff for a pregnant girlfriend but later revealed that he had used it for brewing beer since he arrived in Australia. Apparently the beers' reputation had spread enough, because instead of facing execution he was only fined 5 pounds and 300 lashes.

In 1795 he had finished this sentences and paid his fines and got himself 30 acres of land. It seemed that no one wanted to buy the area surrounding the land he bought, so he bought the rest of the lands with one shilling. In 1806, the size of his lands was in total 1000-acres. In these lands, the first hops in Australia were raised. The first hops were brought to the local "Governor King" for examination, and he was so pleased with them that he gave James one cow from his own herd. This is how the story about the first brewer in Australia began.

Aroma & Appearance:

Properly fruity and fresh aroma. Foam is 2 fingers high and fast to disappear. Bright and copper-colored. The hops are very fragrant and have somehow raw hops feel in their essence, maybe it is from dry hopping. So fresh smell of hops, which is still quite citron, floral and fruity.

Taste:
Carbonated but still quite soft beer. Hops are grassy and slightly crude becouse dry hopping. Hops are surprisingly aggressive, but the bitters have been subdued nicely. The hops dry mouth quite good and the beer profile is really dry. Balanced spices with parfume like floral taste. Grapefruit and tropical fruits are looking for their place, but the tasty flavors are well combined. The after-season palate feel is a bit fuzzy or dull over time.
